The Boiler
The site takes its name from the swell breaking over the top of the pinnacle, which makes the surface look as if it were boiling. Giant oceanic manta rays come here to be cleaned by Clarion angelfish and are known for approaching divers closely and lingering in their exhaled bubbles. Small plateaus sit on the flanks of the rock, and in good conditions the whole pinnacle can be circled more than once in one dive. Dolphins, Galapagos and silky sharks, schooling hammerheads and occasionally tiger sharks, whale sharks and humpback whales also pass by. Divers are kept off the very top of the rock, where the surge is strongest.
