Secca Carega
Conosciuto anche come: Secca Gonzatti · Carega Shoal · Secca di Punta Carega
The name Carega comes from a chair-shaped rock above the surface, and the second name honours the diving pioneer Dario Gonzatti. The shoal can be circled in about half an hour, with the seaward side dropping beyond 50 m and the southern face falling vertically from a central crack. Red gorgonians with anthias, sponges and red coral cover the deeper walls, while the algae-covered top teems with seabream and salema. Schools of barracuda are almost always present, and dentex, amberjack and sometimes large tuna hunt along the walls. Dusky groupers move in and out of their holes and often let divers come close.
