La Vaca

Also known as: Túnel de la Vaca · Cova de la Vaca

La Vaca cuts through Meda Gran on the Punta de la Galera side, and its south entrance lies at about 12 m. The main tunnel is roughly 30 m long and 5 m wide, with three entrances and smaller branches, and it is bright enough that divers can see the far end, which makes it popular with photographers. Inside, the walls are covered with bryozoans, sponges, red coral and other slow-growing species. Outside the northern mouth, walls of red gorgonians reach depths of about 45 m and big groupers rest among the rocks, with a seasonal gathering during their spawning period. On the way back, two more caves and a chimney at the Rincón de la Vaca can round off the dive.
