Torpedo Alley
Also known as: Torpedo Point
The site takes its name from the electric torpedo rays that lie half buried in the dark volcanic sand. Small rocky patches at around 15 m are surrounded by sand, so photographers can work without touching the reef. After dark the slope fills with bobtail squid, stargazers, bobbit worms, flying gurnards and frogfish. Mimic octopus, ghost pipefish and decorator crabs are further prizes, and nurse sharks sometimes rest under the coral blocks. Visibility is usually low, which suits the slow search for camouflaged animals.
