Mavis Seaplane 1

Also known as: Kawanashi Mavis Seaplane 1 · Mavis 1

The Mavis flying boats were destroyed by US aircraft on 7 August 1942 at the seaplane base off Gavutu. This one is complete apart from its starboard wing, so divers can explore the cockpit, gun mounts, engines and floats. A movie camera for aerial surveillance is still on board. Visibility can be poor, but nudibranchs, corals, lionfish, snapper and trevally make the wreck lively.
