Lafalafa
Also known as: Lafa Lafa
Lafalafa, a name its former operator translates as flat, is in fact a seamount whose top lies around 7 m and whose sides fall below 30 m. Acropora covers the top, while cabbage and purple soft corals and yellow sea fans grow deeper down, and Wannadive rates the coral health of the group, mounts 3 and 4 in particular, as the best in Tonga. Because the mounts are offshore and exposed to currents, they attract whitetip reef sharks, dogtooth tuna, great barracuda and jobfish. Schooling unicornfish, snappers and hundreds of fusiliers surround the reef. Humpback whale encounters on scuba have been reported here.
