Frankenwald
Also known as: DS Frankenwald · SS Frankenwald · SS Frankenvald
Frankenwald was built in Hamburg in 1922 and ran onto the rocks at Brattholmen off Ytre Sula in January 1940, before the war reached Norway. The deck lies between about 24 and 34 m and slopes down towards the bow, while the stern rests on sand at 44 m. The wreck is so large that several dives are needed to see holds, superstructure and stern, and the aft mast, rising from about 20 to 7 m and covered in anemones, makes a natural place for the safety stop. Dykkepedia reports that the superstructure had collapsed by 2023, so the accommodation and bridge can no longer be entered, but the large rudder quadrant at the stern is now easy to see. The site is tidal, and divers are advised to return to the shot line or carry a surface marker buoy.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
