Moray Garden
Also known as: Moray Gardens · Sharks Caves · Shark's Cave
Moray Garden is the main site of the Southern Oasis in Wadi Qnai, roughly 10 km south of Dahab, set in a sheltered bay below the mountains with Bedouin beach cafes for the surface interval. From an easy beach entry, a sandy and seagrass-covered area drops to about 9 to 10 m, after which divers turn left towards large golden-hued reef blocks between 15 and 30 m separated by sandy alleys, or right along a coral garden and small wall where a pinnacle surrounded by glassfish stands at about 22 to 25 m. The return leads through a shallow sandy lagoon at about 2 to 8 m with nudibranchs, peppered morays, squid and a school of yellowtail barracuda. Giant and geometric morays live up to the site's name, turtles are frequently reported, and guitar sharks, whitetip reef sharks and even whale sharks have been seen. Protected from waves and usually free of current, it suits all levels, is used for training and is a starting point for drift dives to Golden Blocks or Three Pools.
