Napoleon Reef
Napoleon Reef sits in the Laguna at the tip of a reef peninsula some 450 m off the beach, so dive centres reach it by boat or zodiac rather than from shore. Its centrepiece is a huge coral tower, cut off from the half-submerged reef by a channel, that rises from sand at about 20 m. Because the reef reaches out into the lagoon it is swept by strong currents, which feed soft corals in colours not seen elsewhere in Dahab, with deep-water black corals further down. The Napoleon wrasse that give the site its name are nearly always present, and eagle rays, feathertail rays and turtles are also seen; one centre even reports a hammerhead shark.
