Lighthouse
Also known as: Light House · Lighthouse Reef
Set at the sheltered north end of the bay, the Lighthouse offers one of the easiest shore entries in Dahab and can be dived in almost any weather, which makes it the main training reef for many dive shops and the main spot for Dahab's freedivers. A sandy, seagrass-covered slope, where seahorses and sea moths are often found in pairs, leads to a reef wall on the left; following it north, divers weave between huge coral pinnacles that drop into the deep before crossing a saddle into a coral garden that ends at a large gorgonian fan. The way back rises to a small sandy lagoon at about 5 m, where crocodilefish lie on the sand. Unicornfish, bream, groupers, morays, octopus, Napoleon wrasse, rays and a resident turtle in summer are regular sightings, and at night Spanish dancers, anemone crabs and shrimp come out. An underwater museum of statues, including an elephant built from scrap metal, and a buoyancy park add to a site that rewards divers of every level at different depths.
