Azure Reef

Also known as: Azure Window · Azure Alps

The Azure Window was one of the most famous landmarks of the Maltese Islands until a storm brought it down on 8 March 2017. Its remains now form a new reef of large, sharp-edged blocks with swim-throughs between them, still mostly bare but slowly being colonised by algae and fish. The boulders lie at around 5 to 16 m near the Blue Hole and fall steeply past 50 m on the north and west sides beyond the old stem of the arch, which divers call the Azure Alps. The usual way in and out is through the Blue Hole, and the dive can be continued to the Coral Gardens.
