Fungus Rock
Also known as: Mushroom Rock · General's Rock · Ġebla tal-Ġeneral
The rock owes its name to a rare "fungus" the Knights of St John used as a remedy and guarded closely, even building a cable link from the shore to reach it. Boats anchor in the sheltered bay. The underwater scenery is as dramatic as the rock above, with vertical walls, gullies, swim-throughs between leaning boulders and a cave at about 14 m that reaches far into the rock. Sources note that fish life here is thinner than the landscape would suggest.
