Molasses Reef
Molasses Reef is not a single spot but an extensive reef complex with dozens of mooring buoys, so it can be dived many times without repeating the same route. Tall coral spurs rise from white sand channels in the shallows, while the seaward edge slopes away into deeper water where currents from the nearby Gulf Stream allow drift dives. Named features include the Spanish Anchor, a large ship's winch and several coral caves and ledges. Nurse sharks, southern stingrays, spotted eagle rays, moray eels, schools of grunts and parrotfish are reported by local dive centres. The shallow northern part suits snorkellers and new divers, which makes it a common first reef dive in the Keys.
