Astrée Wreck
Also known as: L'Astrée · Siena · Bellbro
Launched in 1921 as the Bellbro, the ship later carried ore between North Africa and France, was seized in the war and sailed as the Siena before HMS Untiring torpedoed it off Port-Vendres on 1 May 1944. CAP Port-Vendres describes the hull as largely intact with large openings into the interior, while Archipel Plongée says the torpedo broke it in two in front of the superstructure. The galley, two holds, the bow anchors, the funnel and a fallen boom with a gorgonian are among the features. Anthias, sardine schools, zebra seabream and conger eels are abundant, and red gorgonians grow on the forward hull.
