Le Donator

Also known as: Prosper Schiaffino

Built in Bergen in 1931, the ship was carrying wine from Algeria when she hit a mine at the Sarraniers while sheltering from the mistral south of Porquerolles. The wreck rests on its keel on a sandy bottom and is largely intact, with passageways, holds, the wheel and the propeller to explore. Red and yellow gorgonians have colonised the hull, and forkbeards, red mullet, dentex and groupers live around it. Strong and sometimes violent currents and the depth make this a dive for experienced divers, often finished with decompression stops under a surface marker buoy. The Greek wreck Sagona lies close by.
