L'Ariane

Also known as: S 640 Ariane · S 640

The Ariane was a 49.6 m submarine hunter built in 1958 that carried 40 men and four torpedo tubes. In May 1985 the navy sank it near Giens for explosives trials, then refloated it and scuttled it again off Cap Cépet. The wreck rests on sand between about 18 and 30 m and is popular with photographers. Toulon Plongée stresses that diving it is subject to authorisation, and Wannadive mentions boat traffic as a hazard.
