Underwater Island
Underwater Island is a broad reef that rises like a mound from the bottom, which gives the site its name. Boulders and large rocks create deep crevices where lobsters, rockfish and small lingcod shelter. Shorter strands of kelp grow from the top of the reef, and invertebrates cover much of the rock. Sea lions sometimes join divers, and giant sea bass are seen in the area. It lies in deeper water close to Channels and is recommended for macro photography.
