Gull Island

Gull Island is one of the few places in the northern Channel Islands where purple hydrocoral grows, some of it at shallow depths of 15 to 40 ft. Rocky reefs, kelp forest and mini-walls surround the island, and deeper walls lie close by. As a protected area, it holds large sheephead, calico bass, rockfish and lobsters, and harbor seals and sea lions are frequent visitors. Divers report many sea stars and occasionally large torpedo rays. The wreck of a WWII Grumman Guardian plane lies not far away.
