Coral Reef

Coral Reef has no true corals; the name comes from the dense cover of corynactis anemones, sponges and red, purple and golden gorgonians. Two or three reefs run parallel to the island, separated by sand, with the inner reefs fairly shallow and the outer reef dropping steeply into deeper water. Divers report many nudibranchs, sea stars and bottom fish such as rockfish, lingcod and cabezon, and giant sea bass are sometimes seen. Carpets of brittle stars cover parts of the reef and nearby sand. Currents are almost always present and can change quickly, so dives start up-current with a trail line from the boat.
