MFV Orotava

Also known as: Orotava · Oratava

Irvin and Johnson donated the trawler to the False Bay Conservation Society, which had it towed out and sunk as part of the Smitswinkel Bay artificial reef. It is the larger of the two trawlers on the site. The five Smitswinkel Bay wrecks were sunk on purpose to create an artificial reef and lie close together, so in good visibility several can be seen on one dive. The wreck is covered in soft corals, sponges and sea fans with plenty of fish. The depth makes it suitable for advanced divers only.
