SAS Good Hope

Also known as: HMSAS Good Hope

Launched in 1944, the frigate escorted convoys at the end of the Second World War and later served for many years as the navy's flagship. It was sold for scrap and sunk with explosive charges to form an artificial reef. The five Smitswinkel Bay wrecks were sunk on purpose to create an artificial reef and lie close together, so in good visibility several can be seen on one dive. The structure is overgrown with soft corals, sponges and sea fans and draws many fish. It is one of the deepest wrecks in the group and suits advanced divers.
