The Nursery

The Nursery lies on the western side of Julian Rocks, which is protected from the prevailing south-east swell, so most dive days begin here at the moorings. The bottom is rocky reef with a few larger rocks and sandy trenches between 5 and 12 metres. As the name suggests, it is full of juvenile fish, anemones with clownfish and other small invertebrates. Green, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles use it to feed and rest, and leopard sharks turn up in summer. An old overgrown anchor and chain on the seabed is a well-known landmark.
