Aksona Bay
Aksona Bay is about 50 minutes by boat from Bodrum at the south end of Karaada and takes its name from the famous local sponge hunter Aksona Mehmet. The dive starts over seagrass and rock in the shallows, and below about 20 metres the rocks turn into a wall. Blue Escape points out an old anchor resting on a flat rock at about 13.5 metres and a complete amphora on the sand at around 30 metres. Groupers, dentex, barracuda, moray eels and octopus are common, and with luck thornback rays appear. Dive centres warn of reverse currents.
