Esmeralda Canyons
Also known as: Esmeralda · Esmeralda Canyon
Esmeralda is a stretch of spur-and-groove reef whose parallel coral ridges and sand channels feel like rows of shelves in a library. It is best known for sharks: a local resort promises encounters with nurse sharks and Caribbean reef sharks. Giant black groupers, a resident green moray and turtles add to the encounters. Mooring lines mark the different sections of the canyon system, so operators often dive more than one part of it in a trip.
