Grotta di Mitigliano
Also known as: Mitigliano Cave · Grotta della Corvina
The entrance of this karst cave lies between 6 and 15 m, about 3 m wide, and the passage runs for roughly 80 m. Coarse white sand covers the floor, so divers raise little silt as they swim in. After about 40 m the corridor narrows until only one diver at a time can pass, and two vertical shafts lead up into small air-filled chambers with alabaster formations. The marine park calls it the Grotta della Corvina after the many brown meagre that shelter inside, together with clouds of red shrimp, scorpionfish and small lobsters. Rare finds include the brotula Oligopus ater and a pink-orange anemone that withdraws into the sand when lit.
