Shark's Tooth Cave
Also known as: Shark Tooth
Shark's Tooth Cave lies on the north-east side of the small island of Kitu, off the tip of Nuapapu. Three openings lead into a cave system with several chambers, two of them above sea level with air pockets. A shelf at the back of the cave is a resting place for small whitetip reef sharks, and a torch reveals moray eels, pipefish, scorpionfish, crayfish and nudibranchs in the dark recesses. Divers leave through arches to a wall with coral and fish that can be followed around the island. Current is usually present except at slack tide, so divers descend quickly into the shelter of the cave.
