Swallows Cave

Also known as: Swallow's Cave · 'Ana Pekapeka

Swallows Cave opens on the north-west corner of Kapa Island and is popular with both snorkellers and divers. Divers can enter through a swim-through about 5 to 6 m long and reach a cave floor at around 18 m, where dense schools of small fish swirl in the light coming through the mouth. The scene makes for striking but challenging photography, best in the afternoon because the entrance faces west. Outside, the wall of Kapa holds several nudibranch species, schooling bream and baitfish that draw in tuna and barracuda. Further along the wall there are more swim-throughs and a second cave.
