Coral Gardens
The Coral Gardens lie on the western, seaward side of the reef that links Nuapapu with Vaka'eitu. The reef starts at about 2.5 m on its eastern side and slopes gently west to about 15 m, and the further south one goes the more it becomes a wall. The stretch in the north is the easier, shallower part and is rich in coral and fish. Reaching the outer side by dinghy requires calm weather and high tide, because swell breaks on the reef. South of the south-west point of Vaka'eitu the current can be strong.
