Lighthouse Reef

Also known as: Light House Reef

Several moorings spread over the area around Utila's lighthouse. The inner buoys sit over very shallow sand patches used for confined-water training, while the outer ones lie on the reef wall, which runs from about 10 ft down to sand and then keeps descending. Crevices, notches and small caves to the east shelter large dog snapper. Octopus and spiny lobster make it a popular night dive, and rope sponges, morays, toadfish, hawksbill turtles and spotted eagle rays are also reported.
