Secca dell'Aereo
Also known as: Airplane wreck sea shoal
Two huge rocks mark the point where the smooth seabed at 25 m gives way to the wall. The seaplane does not lie where it went down: a fishing net dragged it to its present spot, and its engine and wings are still tangled in the net while the two-seat cockpit is clearly visible. The wall itself is the main attraction, rich in coralline algae, sponges and bryozoans, with groupers, crustaceans and passing pelagics. Visits to the wreck are limited to about 35 to 40 m for safety. Strong currents on the top of the shoal are likely, so it is recommended for expert divers.
