Irakkandy Wreck
Also known as: Irakkandi Wreck · Irakkandai Ship Wreck · Erakandy Ship Wreck · SS Ava
The wreck lies in shallow water off the coast north of Nilaveli, about 25 minutes by boat from the Nilaveli dive centres. Dive For You describes an iron ship roughly 90 m long whose owner was never identified, although three of its anchors were found; Dive Trinco names it as the SS Ava, lost in 1858 on a voyage from Calcutta to Suez. The hull is heavily broken and has been picked over by treasure hunters, but bow, stern and propeller can still be made out. Soft corals and anemones cover the iron plates. Groupers, moray eels, octopus, trevally, batfish and anemonefish live on the wreck, making it a good first wreck for new divers.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
