Navy Barges

The Navy Barges served as floating quarters during the Second World War and were sunk in the area afterwards; two of them are dived today, linked by a low coral path across eel grass and sand. Their exposed ribs are encrusted with sponges and corals and shelter octopus, moray eels, lobsters and resting nurse sharks. Between June and September large nurse sharks are reported under one section, while sergeant majors guard their purple egg patches. Southern stingrays and turtles cross the sand between the barges, and the shallow depth makes this a favourite night dive.
