Abu Galawa Kebir
Also known as: Abu Galawa Big · Abu Galawa Big - Tug · Abu Galawa Kebir Wreck · Galawa Abu Kebir
The name means father of pools, after the lagoons enclosed by the reef, and the dive often includes a visit into one of them. On the south side the wreck of the Chinese tug Tien Hsing leans at an angle against a coral block, its bow just below the surface and its stern on sand at about 17 to 18 m. The hull is overgrown with soft corals and batfish often gather nearby, but sources warn against entering because of sharp, corroded steel. Around the wreck lie a hard coral garden and large porites heads, and the pools sometimes hold young whitetip reef sharks. Napoleon wrasse, turtles and blue-spotted stingrays are commonly reported, and the site is also used for night dives.
