Hotspot

Also known as: Hot Spot · Hot Spots

Hotspot was first found by spearfishermen and is one of the deeper sites of the 5 Mile area. The reef is flat with a ledge of about 2 m along its up-current edge, roughly 100 m long. Upwelling along the ledge attracts hundreds of fusiliers, and large game fish hang above the reef. An overhang with black coral hides longnose hawkfish, and whip corals harbour camouflaged shrimps. Grey reef, Zambezi and tiger sharks, a big potato bass, spotted eagle rays and mantas are among the larger visitors.
