Breaking Waters
Breaking Waters is the southern, landward end of 9 Mile Reef, where the reef comes almost to the surface right on the backline. It can only be dived on flat, calm days, and good buoyancy control is essential. The site has tunnels and caves, so a torch is useful. A big part of the experience is hanging in the shallows and watching the waves break above. Because it is so rarely dived, the fish are curious, and schools of game fish, ragged-tooth and grey reef sharks and even bottlenose dolphins have been seen.
