Beacon Reef

Also known as: Beacon Bay · Beacon Beach · Atlantis Wreck

The reef starts a few metres below the surface and slopes, then drops steeply, with a wide variety of hard corals. Its landmark is the wreck of the liveaboard Atlantis X, also called Rareung-Chon, which sank in 2002 and lies with the bow at about 15 to 16 metres and the stern at about 30 metres. Batfish gather around the wreck, and schools of trevally, snappers and fusiliers pass along the reef. Turtles, banded sea kraits, cuttlefish and moray eels are common. The shallow sandy part is used for orientation and night dives.
