Mandarin Heaven
The site is entered by boat or by a giant stride from the jetty, and the slope runs from a shallow plateau at 5 metres to beyond 40 metres. Coral heads host octopus and hinge-beak shrimps, while artificial structures shelter ghost pipefish in crinoids and common and zebra lionfish. Two tyre piles at 8 metres attract twin-spot lionfish, banded and winged pipefish, leaf scorpionfish and stonefish. Mandarinfish live among the sea urchins at 5 metres, and the shallows hold turtles, banded sea snakes and robust ghost pipefish. New nudibranch species are found here regularly.
