Awas
Also known as: Awas Reef · Tino's Paradise
Scuba Junkie calls the site Tino's Paradise after one of its founders, who kept returning with photos of tiny painted frogfish and ghost pipefish. The dive is spent almost entirely on the sand, moving from buoy line to buoy line. Robust ghost pipefish, flying gurnards, bobtail squid, blue-ringed octopus and stonefish appear in the middle of the sand. On the artificial structures, very large green turtles are cleaned by wrasse, and broadclub cuttlefish, snapper schools and mantis shrimp are common. Mabul.com estimates close to 200 species for the area.
