Grotta delle Stalattiti
Also known as: Stalactite Cave
The entrance, about 7 to 8 m wide, opens in a narrow fjord-like inlet on the south side of Punta Giglio. The smooth floor and walls show that fresh water flowed here when sea level was far lower during the last ice age. After about 30 m the passage turns sharply and leads to a siphon with breathable air and upper chambers full of still-active stalactites, columns and draperies. Marine life is sparse inside, though small lobsters, forkbeards and occasionally a marbled electric ray are seen. It is often used as a first cave dive.
