Flagpole Point

Also known as: Flagpole Rock · Flag Pole Point · The Knuckle

The main reef at Flagpole Point is an odd-shaped rocky outcrop that runs from about 65 ft at the top to 80 to 90 ft at the base, with cascading walls and boulder fields around it. Large colonies of cloud sponges grow among the boulders, here at unusually shallow depths, together with a garden of young sponges. Wolf eels and octopus live in the crevices, and spotfin sculpins, sea whips and schools of rockfish add to the variety. The stronger current compared with the rest of Hood Canal is part of why life is so rich, but it also makes the long surface swim from the resort demanding. Shore access goes through Mike's Beach Resort for a fee.
