Cave Bay
A staircase of large boulders absorbs much of the swell, leaving a seaweed garden at the head of the bay that also suits snorkellers. Stingrays, crayfish, scorpionfish, firebrick stars, butterfish, black angelfish and eels are typical, while schools of koheru and hunting kingfish pass overhead. Seafriends recommends the northern wall below 10 m as a night dive with plenty of delicate life.
