Ekamako
Also known as: Grotte Ekamako
Ekamako is a sea cave about ten metres across that runs more than a hundred metres into the basalt cliff. Its galleries are wide and high, and the main chamber continues to a freshwater spring and further to a large air pocket. Much of the interest lies on the sandy floor, where big stingrays rest partly buried in the sediment, and the left wall is crowded with spiny lobsters. The former local dive centre ran it for all levels as a rare chance for cave diving in French Polynesia, and the French TV programme Ushuaia filmed the rays here.
