La Nevera

Also known as: The Fridge

La Nevera, the fridge, is a small bay whose rocky bottom holds a cleaning station visited by schooling scalloped hammerheads and Galapagos sharks. The reef itself is stark rock with urchins, yet operators describe shark sightings here as close to guaranteed as it gets at Malpelo. Eagle rays, creole wrasse, morays and schools of silky sharks add to the action, and a small field of gorgonians grows in the bay. Divers have also met manta rays, tunas and whale sharks here. Between May and October the cleaning stations draw particularly large gatherings of Galapagos and hammerhead sharks.
