La Gringa
La Gringa is the biggest rock on the south side of Malpelo and lies in a very exposed position. A cave passes through it between about 24 and 40 m and is home to fish inside. On the exposed side a large school of bigeye jacks lives along the rock. Groups of hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, tunas and eagle rays patrol the rock, and in season silky sharks can gather here in schools of up to 200. On clear days three seamounts are visible from the rock.
