Gato Island

Gato Island is a protected marine reserve and a breeding ground for banded sea kraits. Its rocky shores form overhangs, small caves and swim-throughs where whitetip reef sharks rest, along with bamboo and cat sharks. Soft corals cover much of the reef and hide frogfish, seahorses, cuttlefish and many nudibranchs. A tunnel runs beneath the island and is only for suitably trained and experienced divers. Dive centres split the island into several named sites and usually visit it on a two-dive trip.
