Le Nahoon
Also known as: Épave du Nahoon · Nahoon Wreck
The vessel was launched at Royan as the Quinette de Rochemont to service lighthouses and buoys, and later worked in the Antilles under other names before being stranded by hurricane Inès in 1966. Henry Wakelam then turned it into the three-master Nahoon, and after years at anchor the regional diving committee had it sunk in 1993. The hull of about 40 m sits upright and divers explore the deck with its large helm, the open holds, the engine room and the propeller. Sponges, corals and gorgonians cover the structure, while sea bream, barracuda, jacks, king mackerel, lobsters, crabs and a large green moray live on and around it. The descent is made down the mooring line into the blue, and the wreck is also a popular night and nitrox dive.
