Koh Ma
Also known as: Koh Maa
Koh Ma is a small rocky island off Mae Haad at the north-west corner of Koh Phangan, joined to the main island by a sand bar that can be crossed at low tide. Its main attraction is a reef in very good condition, with boulder, table and staghorn corals, a long anemone garden is home to many anemonefish, and soft, whip and black corals grow deeper on the steeper seaward side. Schooling fish, bannerfish, butterflyfish and large brown-marbled groupers are common, and barracuda and queenfish hunt along the reef when a current is running. The water is calm and sheltered for most of the year, which allows long dives, and divers can circle the whole island by boat or start from the beach. It suits every level, from Discover Scuba participants to experienced divers.
