Independence Reef
Also known as: Independent Reef · Isolated Reef · Independent Rock · Du Li Jiau · 獨立礁 (Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan))
Independence Reef is a single coral-covered rock rising from a sandy bottom about 2 nautical miles from Houbihu harbour, and local dive centres call it their favourite boat dive. A rock at its southern end looks like a dragon's head and is where boats usually tie in, so divers know it as the Dragon King's Head. The east side drops as a cliff where guides hunt for nudibranchs, while the west side is a gentler slope with soft corals and swirling anthias. Sea fans on the reef host pygmy seahorses, and the deeper south side has sea fans and whip corals at about 30 m. Turtles can be met here, and dive centres mention schools of trevally and, with luck, whale sharks.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
