Stubborn Hellion

The B-25 was hit by anti-aircraft fire during a low-level strike on Kavieng and ditched off a small island towards New Hanover; most of the crew was rescued by a Catalina. The aircraft lies in about 12 m on a silty bottom, with the turret guns and the tail gun still in place. Because it is shallow and close to the mangroves, visibility is often low. Operators use it as a short last dive with the air left from a deeper dive.
