Der Yang Wreck
Also known as: Der Yang
The Der Yang was seized by the fisheries authority over suspected illegal fishing and later scuttled as a warning to other long-liners. It came to rest on its starboard side on the edge of Echuca Patch, in the current-swept passage between New Ireland and New Hanover. Although small, the hull is largely intact and very photogenic, and it is covered in colourful soft corals and sea whips. Barracuda and jacks gather around the hull, and the water over the wreck is usually very clear.
